Concerning The Green Monster

I always smile when growing trees are promoted as removing carbon dioxide from the air. Apparently few of the "greens" were awake during elementary science class. The basic carbon cycle is that plants absorb CO2, but when they mature and die, that same CO2 is released into the atmosphere when they rot. So trees and other plants only temporarily store CO2. The only way to remove the CO2 from the system is to either bury the trees, or use the wood in a way that avoids rot, like lumber, or paper, then bury it when it is no longer usable.
