In my column last week, I asked, "Did I miss any methods of obtaining subordinates?"
One third answered, "Yes."
I then asked, "If I did, what other ways can you think of?"
Response: Corporate/company reorganization - especially one based on recommendations of an outside general management consultant with the ear of the Board but no real knowledge of the company's business. Watched it happen in several paper and supplier companies.
Finally, I asked, "Any particular employee acquisition remembrance come to mind?"
Responses:
Took over as General Sales Manager of a supplier in red ink - turnaround situation - required a variety of techniques to get sales and service personnel motivated and performing well.
Yes. My boss transferred in and has already run off our best people. I guess the next company is benefiting from this change. He tried the same management things you describe, but only hurts our invoice printer which is (was) spinning at a rapid pace.
