KAMLOOPS, British Columbia (From news reports) -- Kamloops Fire Rescue crews are taking a defensive stance on a fire burning in the Domtar landfill on Saturday, July 15.

The blaze broke out at about 10 p.m., and responding firefighters had difficulty locating it and determining how to access it.

Platoon Captain Darryl Cooper says it doesn't appear the fire is burning in timber, but rather material in the landfill.

Cooper says crews are protecting exposures and monitoring the fire to ensure it doesn't spread.

The BC Wildfire Service has been alerted, but Cooper said an aerial attack is unlikely in the darkness.
