In reading your article I just got madder and madder about our "elite" Washington reps. I have seen the video.
I am curious if you have read the 1957 book entitled, "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand? If not let me know and I will buy you a copy.

Lawyers should not make laws - it is a conflict of interest. Better yet - the original Tea Party was a protest over "taxation without representation". Today, we have the opposite in "representation without taxation". Yes, I know we all pay taxes, if nothing else sales tax, alcohol tax, tobacco tax, and some poor people are going to pay tanning tax, however anyone on the government dole (and I don't mean social security since you paid into that), anyone taking government money should not be allowed to vote for the very individuals who sends you that money. As Margaret Thatcher said "socialism is fine until you run out of other people's money". The government should require taxes on handouts and require a W2. Then rather than voter registration, one should show the W2 at the polling place, if the source of money was Big Brother, then you could not vote - or vote, and it not count - or maybe weigh it in proportion to how much you contributed to society...

Good article Jim. I don't think I could have exercised the restraint the Admiral did in his response, nor do I think the representative's comments were intended as metaphor.
There needs to be a certain inclination toward understanding science and fact vs. opinion for our political leaders, but that's not all. There should be a variety of disciplines of trained folks as voting representatives us in our government. It seems to be weighted too heavily in those who studied law, but that's my opinion. I'd like to see the facts.
I am employed by a corporation that was led by a lawyer for slightly more than 10 years. The fact is we were led to near extinction in becoming the largest newsprint organization during a time that technological advances were creating decreased demand for the corporation's primary product. Thank goodness we did not dispose of our pulp and coated paper capabilities.
